'dead sea'
watercolour on stretched paper, 12/02/95
In one week in December, eight sperm whales came ashore on
Orkney, and died; and a school of pilot whales came ashore on
Shetland, and many of them died. In January, an eight-foot
leatherback turtle came ashore at Brighouse Bay, 12 miles from
my home, dead. Innumerable dolphins, porpoises and seals have
washed up dead on Scotland's shores this winter.
This painting relates to the earlier windscale/lament for the sea.
