XML and Java

XML provides a new application and architecture neutral lingua franca for information interchange between heterogenous software agents on a network. Although XML can be generated and parsed using any programming language, Java, a highly portable architecture neutral language, is one very suitable choice. While the course uses Java as a vehicle for teaching, most of the material is applicable to generating XML applications in other programming languages.

In order to lay foundations on which the XML elements of the course can be built, the course starts with an introduction to JDBC, the Java Database Connectivity package, and development of a small example database driven application in Java.

Prerequisites:

It is assumed participants have some basic knowledge of Java.
