describing one of the more puritanical and unlikeable cults of the Great Place

Worships the God as Creator. The Hand is the cult of craftsmen, and as such is powerful. Its primary responsibilities are in industry, industrial standards, and the accreditation of craftsmen. However, some unexpected functions fall with in its ambit. Surgery is seen as a craft, and is supervised by the Hand. In this aspect, the Hand works closely with the Nose. Also, the Hand carries some residuary remains of a War God cult, and performs internal policing and border guard functions, in co-operation with the Mouth.

The Hand derives it's considerable income from pitch fees for the Craft Market, which it supervises, and from examination fees from aspiring craftspeople.

Taynuic is examined by the hand

The influence of the Hand has been increasing in recent centuries, and it is feared that this house is ambitious. The cult has a strong following in the City. It holds that the God favours those who help themselves, and that worldly success is a sign of divine favour. Observances are public, usually held indoors, and comprise brisk public singing, accompanied by the playing of percussive and stringed instruments. and sermons. Members of the cult wear plain clothes generally in dark colours. The whole of the body except the face and hands must always be covered, and garments should not be designed to attract attention (except to their plainness). Priests wear plain black clothing fashioned after a style of workmens' overall now many centuries out of date.

Death and Funerary Rites
The House of the Hand depends for its funerary rites on the House of the Eye, and follows their practice.

Aonan is imprisoned in the House of the Hand.
